Nashville Scene wrote that "Corndawg's epochal full-length, Down on the Bikini Line, was one of the filthiest, funniest and most innocent country records in recent memory." Jonny recently announced he is returning to his given name, "Fritz," and will be announcing a new album soon be announcing the 2013 release of Dad Country, which was recorded with Taylor Goldsmith, Griffin Goldsmith, Tay Straithairn and Wylie Gelber, along with Spencer Cullum Jr. and Joshua Hedley.
Jonny had a big year in 2013: standout shows at SxSW (where he was one of Rolling Stone's "Can't Miss" performers) and the Newport Folk Fest, profiles on CMT.com and the Oxford American and tours dates with The Alabama Shakes, Dawes, and others. Jonny will be touring November 1 – 17th with the Devil Makes Three (scroll down for complete tour dates). He's also working on music for the upcoming drug documentary Oxyana with Deer Tick's John McCauley; more on that soon.
Offstage, Jonny is an airbrushing, leather-working, marathon-running, truck-driving machine who treats his body like a temple and country music like the gospel. He's been referred to as the "new face of outlaw country" (Nashville Scene) and his most recent release, Down on the Bikini Line, is as honest as they come. This guy is like a modern John Prine – great songwriter who mixes humor and sadness and notices the little things.
