ROBERT EARL KEEN
With a textured and weathered beauty that crosses the border between folk and country, Robert Earl Keen travels far from the beaten path, exploring the backroads of I imagination. This is the place where one exploits the trails of loneliness, the road and regret while wrestling against hope, humor and virtue. When things look pretty bleak, Keen reminds us we can always find comfort at the nearest barbecue joint or family round up.
Keen's journeys have yielded GRINGO HONEYMOON his fifth album and latest Sugar. Hill release. The album captures the lyrical honesty and amicable reassurance that has become his trademark. That combination, delivered by a man who leaves no doubt that he loves performing, consistently draws a large, enthusiastic and devoted audience. Keen's audience are believers. They sing along from the beginning to the end of every song anticipating Keen's ad-lib breaks and novices leave their first show with as many CDs or tapes as the surplus of their beer money permits (Keen's audiences have priorities, too).
A native Texan, Keen moved to Nashville in 1985 on the wings of his debut NO KINDA DANCER. Several years of the grind of the music industry left Keen longing for home, so he returned to 'the .source of his inspiration, Texas. Seasoned by the experiences of big business an the live shows that have produced a wildly rabid following, Keen eventually returned to Nashville and began his association with Sugar Hill Records recording two highly lauded releases appropriately titled THE LIVE ALBUM in 1988 and WEST TEXTURES in 1989. 1993 saw the release of A BIGGER PIECE OF SKY, an album that brought Keen's poetic style to a larger audience than ever before and drew raves from critics from coast to coast.
The flavorful sounds of Robert Earl Keen have been recorded by a host of his contemporaries including Lyle Lovett, Joe Ely and Nanci Griffith, and he has shared the stage with such luminaries as Emmylou Harris John Prine and Richard Thompson.
With GRINGO HONEYMOON, Keen's's remarkable songwriting takes yet another step forward. Transcending regional boundaries Keen opens his treasure chest of life experience, painting brilliant portraits where outlaws find their fate, lovers find out the hard way and weary travelers find paradise across the border. In the songs of Robert Earl Keen, everyone will find a little of themselves.
